Model Boat Building Made Simple

This is a truly excellent book showing how to build a simple rowing dory. The method used to demonstrate the construction of the boat is by colour pictures and colour diagrams. All details for every stage of the construction are shown. The end result is a model built using the same construction methods as the full scale boat. (a boat in miniature rather than a model). This is the ideal approach for these and similar craft and produces a very satisfying fully detailed model. Slightly more complex motor and sailing craft are also outlined. This book is equally suited to modelers new to the hobby and experienced modelers looking for a break from more complex models.

This is a gift for a guy that builds models and the model in question is a boat that we had in our childhood.

The slew of five star reviews for "Model Boat Building Made Simple" made my decision to buy the book a no-brainer. Amazon seems to have moved away from the "look inside" preview system, that might have been enough to steer me away. This book has a great layout, large color pictures, a decent presentation for putting together a simple small boat. I have delved into the scale wooden modeling realm, and was looking for a book that would present a spectrum of models and techniques. This book is really just a build journal of a single, very simple, somewhat crude row boat. If the description presented it that way I would have no beef. For the price of this book, you can buy an entry level wooden model that would include the wood and a building guide. When you were done, you would have learned just about everything presented in this book.

Apart from in a couple of minor areas the book provides clear instructions on how to make the model boat. I'm a novice model maker but managed to produce a decent end product (see picture). A good way to get into model making.
