Super Comp

The sound of a Dyna Comp, but with adjustable attack. I had a Dyna Comp on my pedal board for decades until it finally went to the big pedal board in the sky. Picked this up for a great price. Sounds like my old Dyna Comp, except less noisy. The added attack control adds some versatility.

I wouldn't say it is a 'Super' compressor, but it's a pretty good compressor for a small pedal. Helps drive my Marshall DSL40 right into that sweet spot (after the Cap 9 mod and speaker switchout, of course). MXR has always made good, inexpensive pedals (remember the phase shifter from the late 70's early 80's? Couldn't play Van Halen without it!). Yeah, I'm old.

This compression pedal is very well made and does what it's supposed to do: compress and focus your guitar signal so it cuts through the mix. Compression is supposed to push your signal more toward the middle of the sound spectrum, but the effect is pretty subtle, really. According to an article I read, the compression pedal should be the first one in your chain. I didn't have it set up that way at first, but when I reconfigured my pedal board like that, the guitar signal really came into focus no matter what other pedals I was using. A few reviewers have stated that this pedal is noisy. I don't find that all. There's a little hiss if you max the output on the pedal, but I only keep it at about 60-70% and there's no problem. The hum from my Fender amp on a good day is louder.

Really like how much this compressor improves the overall sound and tone of my guitar. Fixed dynamics issues I was having while fret tapping and using various pedals with my guitar. It does add some noise if you crank it past 50% or so, but that is to be expected. The pedal itself is heavy for its size due to its metal casing but durable. Attack knob I believe is a necessary feature that makes this model worth the extra ten bucks or so.

Haven't worked much with compression before; but this does the job that I would expect from compression and is a nice feature / addition to the pedalboard. I use it often, just to get an extra something to my clean and dirty sound. Great sound / tone for my Strat! Provides an additional tone that I can't get without it. Great sustain!

I've seen people say this is great compression for the money. Actually it's just great compression. It's Dunlop/MXR so it's also built like a tank. For me, this is an always-on pedal.

We were looking for a guitar sound that we weren't getting from a factory board. We were so impressed with the output of this compressor that we bought the family of pedals. What a difference! A valid, powerful array of sounds with TONE!

I hadn’t used an MXR compressor in years. In the past I had a couple of Dynacomps and also a “script” version. They were all quite noisy. This one is whisper quiet, I’m very pleasantly surprised. It is voiced slightly more brightly and provides a lot of compression at max sustain. The attack knob is useful. On the whole a very good pedal.
