Ameristep 3D Leafy Poncho

So simple, affordable and functional. I am dumbfounded after 35 years in the woods at how well this thing works. Yesterday, got my UTV parked and finished dressing. Put the poncho on. Walked about 10 ft and all of a sudden a train of 11 deer were coming from behind the small cabin at park behind. I froze! 22 eyeballs checked me out as they went by. Not one single alert!!!They left and I made my walk to the swamp, went in a good ways, momma and twins came by. I was in their bedroom, risky move, but season is pretty much over, bucks dropped antlers, so it was an experiment week. The button fed to within 5 ft of me. I was sitting in a folding chair with the poncho draped over it.Today, tricked 5 deer, all under 20 yards. Came from various directions. I'm a believer. As for the complaints on white backsides. Many leaves are lighter on the back. And when using in snow or up in a tree, the lighter contrasting color works as it should. Don't wear it in a dark pine tree!I'm very pleased with the size. I can put it over enough clothing I wear to stay put all day at 20 degrees F. I'm 6'1" 250, so that's a good amount of clothes.

I like almost everything about it, but it would be so much better if it came with a nicestorage bag.. few extra $$ spend would not be the worst thing in the world its cammo inone minute.. i call it you can go in the woods with your tennis clothes on, once you throwthis on, you become pretty much invisible. (from a distance).

I'm a large man, 6'2" 300lbs and the poncho fits and covers me well.Appears to be well made and the mesh material it is made from I think will allow me to make some modifications with some ghillie suit material to better match the poncho to the natural surroundings where I hunt. I've only worn it twice so far, but both occasions I noticed that birds and squirrels seemed to pay less attention to my presence and get much closer than with my standard hunting camo.

Would be a better rating except the first time I went to unbutton it to take it off the hanger it came on one of the buttons ripped off. The material that the buttons are placed on is extremely thin and flimsy and I don't expect the other button to last very long. As far as the look it is nice and since it's already on a mesh net I plan on adding some jute and other materials. I put the base of the button back in so you can see how it came out, the material around it just gave away with the amount of force that is necessary to unbutton it.

Amazing. I'll let the photos speak for themselves, but I will add a little. I bought this last week for opening day. Where I hunt I have to walk long ways because no motor vehicles are allowed. I cannot add stationary tree stands and don't want to lug a climber in long ways. I have to ground hunt. I was skeptecal at first but this thing works great. I know because a hawk landed about ten yards away from me and couldn't see me. They are the best eyes in the biz. I had a deer walk up on me about twenty yards down wind. It winded me and stood snorting and stomping at me for seems like ten minutes. She couldn't spot me. Never got a shot. Oh well. I recommend this product.

I preferred the green one but it is not made anymore. However, a camo expert said brown is actually the universal camoflauge color so I bought it after waiting for months for a green one to show up. But it ain't gonna happen so bought the brown intrigued by what the expert said.

I love this poncho. I ended up buying 4 so my whole family could have one. They fit everyone no matter your size or how much cold weather gear you layer underneath it. My son may have to wait a couple of years to wear his because he isn’t tall enough yet to keep it from dragging on the ground.

This poncho is too small. The sides didn't even come close to my elbows so both arms stuck out without any cover. The poncho did not have enough 3D leaves. It seemed like the poncho primarily looked like a bunch of brown colored see through mesh with some inadequately spaced leafy ribbons sewn on. The mesh seems incredibly heavy for mesh. The rear of the leaves are light colored and they distract from a camo effect by appearing as bright lines when several adjacent leaves fold over. The leafy ribbons were sewn on horizontally where as a vertical orientation would make for better blending with natural surroundings. I was left with the idea that the product photo must have taken some effort to stage so that the garnet looked like it was covered in leaves and might be be effective in the field. I think an ideal poncho would be made of a light weight mesh that is imprinted with the camo design. The leaves should have camo coloring on both sides. I wanted to like it but I returned it because I knew I would never use it.

I'm a big guy, it does fit me, when standing it covers down to my ankles. the hood part can be cinched tight to cover most of your face and head. the mesh makes it very breathable. each of the 3D leaves is only printed on one side of the material, but the back still has enough color to work fine.will be using it for hunting this spring, so we shall see how well it works

My intentions with this item is to craft a more suitable ghillie suit for airsoft. Essentially I will be using this for hunting so whatever I say should apply to hunters as well.This item is affordable and works decently on its own however, the image shows a lot more browns than the item truly is. I believe the picture used is a brown version but the item you get is a 4 season version as it has more whites and greens than the picture in the Ad does. Never the less, good camouflage.The leaves are a nice shape but white/grey underneath. This is the biggest let down of the product. Having 3-D leaves is not really effective if the underside is not a natural colour.This item on its own may not be that effective depending on what you are using it for. I plan on adding to it with green and brown mesh like materials along with some burlap and building something much more effective. The great thing about this item is the netting it is based on has large enough loops to add more material. The base netting seems highly durable as well and if a poncho style suit is not what you are looking for then you can cut the front off and have a simple ghillie cape if youd like. I got this as a craft project, I suggest you do the same if you are going to buyoh and it wreaked of fish out of the box probably due to the material its made with so be sure to let it air dry somewhere.

High quality, I am XXL and this fits great - like a poncho - easy to move your arms, full movement - comes to below waste - easy to walk position to position - love it.

As someone already stated, it's a frog-tog style material for the leaf. Dull white on the back side. Not a huge issue if hunting late season, or amongst the alder, but still a consideration. The other issue with it if that after wearing to the bow stands for the first time the other day, it's way too loud for still air bow hunting. Some day I'm going to grab some thread and add it to it and make it a true guille, but until then it's a motor cover for the duck boat.

Yes, I am thrilled with concept of poncho and the material used since I hunt in the rainy climate of British Columbia. Way to go, good thinking. Good quality product.
