ACME 212 - Orange Whistle

I have two of these. I would not use anything else. Have tried others but they just aren't as good. I have them away to neighbour children. You might be able to train a dog to respond to any whistle on the front garden, but the cheap ones just can't be heard at any distance, and the don't get the same level of response. We use this for recall and for hide and seek. Most dogs respond better to a whistle than verbal command . They quickly learn that sound means a reward. We started with our pup in between two people, running back and forth to whoever blew the whistle to get a treat. Later we moved to different parts of the house and garden, and have progressed now to the level that my son can hide a few blocks away and blow the whistle and she can find him. To.be honest, I can't hear it at that distance . This is in the city without houses and trees blocking sound, and So much background noise. But it seems she can and she can find him. Every time the dogs hears the whistle and finds the person the dog gets treats, a favourite toy, or both. It may sound like a silly game, but if the worst should ever happen and dog be lost, it means the family could search blowing whistles and she would know to come to the sound of she heard them. The sound would carry much further than shouting. I have never had a dog separated from me as an adult, but it's always good to prepare for disasters. I also hope it will help her develop scenting abilities, as the whistle is only blown once, and she has to use her nose to find the exact hiding spot. Have also used this to call her to my side when she really wanted to chase a huge rat. I find the whistle cuts through all the excitement and dogs are much more likely to respond even when highly excited . And of course it is just fun. Malinois need a lot of activity and enrichment. This gives her a chance to have fun and test her abilities , while.learning skills that could be useful in the future.

Whistle works well

My dog responds well to the whistle but proper training of the dog is required. I have purchase three of these whistles so they all have the same tone or pitch. I always use the same whistle pitch and signal. I have noticed that although most dogs seem to respond to a whistle when they first hear it, unless the dog is properly trained a whistle will quickly be ignored.

I bought this for my half Pomeranian, half 🤷‍♂️, stray born puppy. He isn't an easy dog to train with a terrible recall who was returning only about 20% of the time. I didn't hold out much hope for this whistle but for £6 I thought, give it a go. So I started at home, using it, then offering him a treat. I only gave it 3 of 4 goes in the house. He was totally oblivious to it. I gave it another go in the park again over a couple of days with a treat regardless that he didn't respond. I thought this just isn't going to work. I left it for a few days and then tried it again - he seemed to respond. Woe I thought. I then tried it a second time when he was a bit further and he came but I wasn't sure if it was the whistle cos he took some time to respond. So I was like, Hmm. The following day I went back to the park where he did his usual of remaining with other dogs (his stray instinct) rather than follow me. I put a good distance (c.a. 250m) between us including a hill and used the whilst. He showed up from behind the hill in seconds. Further down there were lots and people and commotion, he gets involved in that, I continue walking(70m), turn around and he is not visible, lost in the crowd and dogs. I whistle and he shows himself but he can't see me. I whistle again, he spots me and runs to me. Finally, he ran off(c.a. 150m) with a bunch of dogs one of them eagerly humping him. I called him by name, but nothing, I blew on the whilst and he instantly turned his head and ran towards me. BTW, each time before using the whistle I called him by his name then used the whistle if he didn't respond ie. by catching up to me. Conclusion: With just a little patience this whistle undoubtedly works. If it doesn't, it means you are not training your dog correctly when using this whistle (which in my case was minimal) or your dog just doesn't have an ear for this whistle's frequency. Please note that the whistle's frequency is irritatingly high and screechy.

A good whistle which certainly grabs my dogs' attention but a shame it doesn't come with the lanyard as pictured, otherwise would have got 5 stars. Feel the picture is somewhat misleading plus the pink version is somewhat overpriced when compared to Acme's own website where the pink whistle and lanyard can be purchased for £10.13 + p&p.

The whistle is great, my dog responds with enthusiasm each time it is blown. Great for recall practice.
