The Bronte Collection (Jane Eyre / The Tenant of Wildfell Hall / Wuthering Heights)

The lesser known youngest sister, philosophical Anne Bronte's "Tenant of Wildfell Hall" is a favorite though her reality big sis Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre" the definitive Dickensian Cinderella tale with depth. Third sis Emily Bronte a teacher described as "manly wild" is reflected in her dark "Wuthering Heights" I don't care for but will occasionally watch just to luxuriate in Gothic British delish.And speaking of delish, Romany-looking Timothy Dalton is as "to die for" as Jane Eyre's Mr. Rochester as fave James Bond in "The Living Daylights." If you can think of a more romantic on-screen leading man, please post. (Robert Redford more classically handsome but lacking Dalton's tantalizing charisma; & Pierce Brosnan good husband material I'd love to take home with me, more charming as well as more classically good-looking but Dalton's edge more thrilling for a Gothic novel romantic lead, don't you think?)

Good English movies, love them!

I ordered this twice and neither of them worked. The first time I ordered was June 25. I received the collection within a normal amount of time and realized that the Gene air disc was a two sided disc. This was a big disappointment to begin with because many times the two sided discs do not work properly. I decided however to go ahead and keep the item. After opening, I attempted to play the Jane Eyre disc and at chapter 4 of 11 chapters the disc stopped all together and would not go forward. I turned the disk over and found that the same was true. I called Amazon and I made plans to return the item. I was disappointed because I really wanted to keep the collection. I allowed myself to be talked into replacing instead of refunding the item. I received the second item about a week later and the very same thing happened when I attempted to play the Jane Eyre disc. Of course I have returned both sets and asked for a refund not being willing to try again. It is now July 16 and I am still waiting for my money back.

DVDs arrived on time. They are clean and in perfect viewing.

These are classy, well produced TV versions of these books (one from each of the 3 Bronte sisters).Featuring some well-known actors, they are very agreeable viewing.The productions are several years old, so they can look a bit studio-ish in places compared with more recent productions, which is why I knocked a star off.I have not seen "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall" in any other production, so this is a must for collectors.

Just LOVE these stories. The version of Jane Eyre with Timothy Dalton is the very best and I've seen quite a few.

This set has 3 DVDs in it. The Jane Eyre DVD stopped playing about a third of the way into it. I contacted Amazon and they sent a replacement. The Jane Eyre DVD in the replacement set didn't completely stop working, but would glitch for several seconds and then start up again. Repeatedly. I wanted so much to watch it that I tried to endure the constant glitching, but it became unbearable. The other 2 DVDs are fine. I hadn't seen any of these before, but am a big fan of the Bronte books. The Tenant at Wildfell Hall was the best of the 3 (though I can't really judge Jane Eyre since I've only seen a third of it). I expected to like the Wuthering Heights (with Ian McShane of Deadwood as Heathcliffe) but I found it overly dramatic. Mostly I am disappointed that I never got to watch all of Jane Eyre. I didn't bother to complain to Amazon a second time because it seemed to me that there was something wrong with the way the DVD had been created and I didn't want to get a third defective set.

Buyer beware! The film "Wuthering Heights" is a 1967 Black and White version, even though the DVD cover has been colorized. The acting is terrible and the script is not true to the original novel. The other two DVDs in the set are in color and excellent. Why they didn't include a more recent version of Wuthering Heights is a mystery to me, since there are several that are in color, well acted, and more true to the novel.

Excellent collection of Bronte tales with first rate casts that stick pretty well to the storylines given these were made for tv. Good quality.

Ich habe zwar erst einen Teil gesehen, die Serie ist sehr ausführlich, da es sich um eine Fernsehserie handelt. Die Verfilmung ist klassisch, gut gespielt, ohne Schnickschnack. Die Schauplätze sind sehr stimmigt. Insgesamt eine sehenswerte und gelungene Verfilmung, als Paket für Bronte-Fans ein Must.
