Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb Alan Silvestri
D**Y
Silvestri takes us back to the museum.
It's nice to see Alan Silvestri continue on as the composer for this series. He picks up where he left off by bringing back familiar themes from the previous movies and builds upon them to tell this new story. As with the other movies, this is a big score which utilizes a large orchestra, as well as, a full chorus. The musicians used for the score are the Hollywood Studio Symphony and the Hollywood Film Chorale. The score is crafted perfectly for a family adventure film. It's packed with fun action sequences, comic bits, mystery and magic too. Silvestri has decorated the score with carefully planted musical sequences that captures the various characters and cultures found at the museum as well. Listen carefully and you can hear Egyptian themed music, the trumpet of Roosevelt's calvary, and even a hint of Chinese instrumentation.Silvestri uses the chorus to achieve some very nice effects within the music. Track 10, Xiangliu, utilizes the Hollywood Film Chorale to achieve a really cool action sequence in the score. I haven't seen the movie yet...but I am pretty sure this is some sort of battle scene with a monster. I believe that Xiangliu is the nine headed snake from Chinese mythology. It's a great sounding track and I bet it would make great exercise music too! Some other standout tracks for me is #4, "Grand Re-Opening" and #15, "The Quest". Track 4 brings us back to the museum and the theme is played in it's full glory here. It's a power track that establishes the uniqueness of this museum and it really does sound like your walking into the "grandness" of a museum for the first time. "The Quest"...this one is particularly good. You know those scenes in the movies that give you the goosebumps? Well this is the music that does it. It starts off a little weird...gets very slow and somber and then at 1min 50seconds...it builds into something quite amazing. Tracks 15-19 (the final ones on the disc) are all the emotional pieces one after another. The last track, "Teddy's Goodbye" is exceptionally sad when you consider events outside of the movie. This track ends a little abruptly and I wonder if Varese Sarabande (the company that produced the CD) has edited the music for this particular release? It's also odd that there are no ending credits. Maybe they used a song for the credits...I don't know. I have a love/hate relationship with Varese Sarabande. I am very thankful for this company for producing these scores and making them available to the public but I also feel that never really give us a carefully thought out version of the score when they release it (unless they do it under their deluxe versions). Anyway, the entire score clocks in at 58 minutes. They've included a pretty decent CD booklet with pictures from the film and liner notes that include credits to the musicians. It's a great score to listen to and I am sure any film music fan and especially those of you who like Alan Silvestri's work will appreciate this one.

Well written soundtrack for awesome movie
I'm fifteen years old and I've been playing violin for about six years. I really enjoy the Night at the Museum movies and Secret of the Tomb is my favorite movie. I got this cd for Christmas and I listen to it ALL THE TIME. Alan Silvesrti is my favorite composer and when I realized he wrote the music for this, I liked it even more. I've basically memorized all the songs. The music is well written and fits the movie. I think the sad songs sound very sad. My mom thinks the last song, "Teddy's Goodbye," is really sad because Robin Williams passed away.

Secret of the Tomb is a musical masterpiece
The music is moving and grand. I have been listening to it as I've been reading a high action book and this music really sets the mood. Secret of the Tomb's soundtrack can transport you right into the movie and it can be enjoyed without any prior Night at the Museum movie experience. Alan Silvestri has created any musical masterpiece.
