The Phantom the complete dailies volume 17: 1961-1962 (Phantom: the Complete Newspaper Dailies) Hardcover – Illustrated, December 10, 2019

Two of these Phantom stories are illustrated by Wilson McCoy, the rest by the greatest Phantom illustrator ever: Sy Barry. All the stories are written by Lee Falk, the creator of the Phantom. The stories are:1. The Iron Dragon (McCoy)2. The Werewolf (McCoy)3. The Slave Market of Mucar (Barry)4. The Epidemic (Barry)5. The Wharf Rats (Barry)This collection also features the first part of a July 2019 interview with Sy Barry; the second part of the interview will be included in Volume 18 of the Phantom dailies published by Hermes. Reading these stories was a highly enjoyable experience, and a great nostalgic fix: I first came across the Phantom stories as a child, and I find I continue to enjoy them.My favorite story in this collection was 'The Slave Market of Mucar'. It was the first Phantom story illustrated by Sy Barry and one can immediately make out his great technical skill. The tale itself is one of the best in the Phantom canon.

El formato, la encuadernación y la presentación están muy cuidadas. Esta colección de Hermes Press es de muy buena calidad, por lo que resulta adecuada para coleccionistas o amantes del personaje de Phantom, como es mi caso. Con todo, este volumen en particular tiene un precio que está en el límite superior que incluso un coleccionista puede permitirse pagar. Otros títulos de la misma colección, con precios superiores a los 60€, resultan demasiado caros, lo que dificulta enormemente hacerse con unos cuantos volúmenes a pesar de todo.

Die klassischen Phantom Geschichten von Lee Falk gezeichnet von Wilson McCoy und zum ersten mal von Sy Barry, der wohl beste Phantom Zeichner.Leider wurden diese Geschichten in Deutschland nicht mehr veröffentlicht seit den Bastei Comics in den 70ziger und Anfang 80ziger Jahren. Wobei die damaligen Veröffentlichungen in Deutschland mehr schlecht als recht waren und nur einige Geschichten aus der Feder des genialen Sy Barry stammten.Hier liegen nun in edlem Hardcover die original Stories vor. Spannend zu lesen und sehr gut gezeichnet von Sy Barry. Dieser erinnert mich in seinem Zeichenstil an John Romita Senior, einfach klasse.Die Geschichten sind natürlich auf englisch aber sehr gut zu lesen. Freue mich auf die nächsten Bände dieser Klassiker. Mir ist es ein Rätsel, warum kein Verlag in Deutschland diese Geschichten veröffentlicht. Jedenfalls hat Hermes Press einen klasse Job gemacht. Well done Hermes Press and continue the good work.

The transition from long term Phantom artist Wilson McCoy to new artist Sy Barry had to be handled smoothly and Barry kept his illustrative style under wraps to a degree as King Features Syndicate worried about readers suddenly being shocked by too big a contrast in styles.As a result there are some slightly more cartoony characters still being found while Barry inexorably moved his Phantom towards his more illustrative style. As a result this volume has a unique blend and is very enjoyable as a result.

Gostei do livro e desta fase inicial do The Phantom de Sy Barry. A única coisa que tenho a reclamar é que a capa exterior tenha vindo um pouco dobrada.
