PerfectoJMMTAAG Aquarium Glass Replacement Hinge: Small

Use a hair dryer
This is ridiculously expensive for what it must have cost to extrude it; good grief! I had to have it though, because I bent my old hinge backward and broke it. This item fits 1/4” aquarium glass. My husband cut it to length for me with a jigsaw. Yes, it is tight-fitting, otherwise the glass would fall out. Guys, please don’t use liquid soap, oil, or anything else to get this to slide onto the glass. You don’t want to drop the glass or poison your fish. Use a hair dryer (obviously far away from the aquarium or any other body of water). Get the hinge started on one corner of the glass. Then, with the hair dryer on high, heat the next inch of the hinge and press it onto the glass. Repeat all the way across. Take your time and be careful so that you don’t break the glass. Easy does it. You’ll have it on in less than 10 minutes. Remember that the connected part of the hinge is the top. Have fun with your tank. 😊

Great Replacement for my broken original Plastic Glass top hinge
Thank You reviewers for your warnings of hardship getting the glass into this hinge. So with no other choice, I decided to buy it. And with all the warnings, I decided to carefully try to install my glass tops into this hinge. First I had to make sure I mark it to cut it into the right length that fit in the ridge of my 10 gallon tank. Then to remove the old hinge which was welded shut with mineral deposit. My savior was WD-40 and a drywall spatula. Then the dreaded task of attempting to slip the glass top into the jaws clamped tight of the new hinge without breaking the glass or cutting my hands. First made sure I got the hinge opening the correct way for the glass top with the handle. I got some rubber work gloves, sprayed some WD-40 into the top of the hinge and SLOWLY maneuvered the tip of the glass into the hinge. Went easily one third of the way, then stuck like a pig. I placed the bottom on a non-slip surface, like my door mat, then gently pressed down, slowly from the top with my gloved hands and prayed. LOLIt slowly slipped down, with a few taps, into place. I even put the broken corner tip side into the hinge, so that it won't be a dangerous cutting edge. I hit it accidentally so had duct tape on it originally. YAY success. Did the same, even slower with the other half. Once done, it was even better than the original hinge. I am so pleased.

Aqueon 54 gallon corner
I purchased this to replace the hinge on my Aqueon 54 corner aquarium. This hinge is slightly slimmer than the factory hinge, but it works. For install, I ran boiling water down the inserts, put water based KY jelly on the glass, then started on one end with a rubber mallet and worked my way down. Hope it will last a few years.

Great replacement hinge.
Worked and fitted fine on my 1/8" thick cover. It does fit tight and will take some care getting it together. I placed a towel on my kitchen counter and used a little bit of non scented hand dish soap as a lube. Start with one end and and rotate the rest into the groove. It will not slide length wise easily so make sure to line up the ends. Make sure the hinge is right side up, the gap in middle open side down. rinse off all the soap before putting it back on the aquarium. My only regret is not replacing both hinges on my aquarium when the first one broke. The other original hinge broke recently and one section of the glass was broken.

A necessary evil
Your hinge on your glass lid goes, not too many options out there. This will hold well once it is attached, its getting to that point that is a pain in the ass. I let this thing sit in the FL sun for a bit and then warmed it up more with a hair dryer, and then put a silicone spray in it. It was still a pain in the butt to get the glass to slide into it. Getting the second piece of glass in tended to push the first out as well. I wish it had a bit more give to it .

Way to thick inside
After I cut out " ALL " 4 inside inside tabs strips with an exacto knife, it fit beautifully otherwise, it is impossible to get the glass top in it but now I'm very happy with it

Easier to get on the glass if you use soap as lubricant.
Was easy to cut to length and not difficult to install.

Perfect fit, hard to install
This fit my Marineland glass canopy perfectly, but it was very hard to install. Be prepared for some minor frustration.
