Disappointed one!
I am so disappoint with this volume.I had read his many books already.I think this one is less interesting than the other books he ever written before.Firstly, I suppose this book will give the reader to gain more on details of how to analysis or how he apply the theory to real many case study.but the truth is all the case study is so short with no more detail analysis clarify. It is like a short note book while waiting for the next big real book to happen.the only good thing on this book is he had finally reveal the other use of the Qi men. like use qi men dun jia to analysis man destiny (Bazi) but I believed there are still more subject to reveal next time isn't it?

Defintely an introduction only!
At last, long waited themed book is published. This book only discuss about how to use QMDJ just for fun only. Not deep enough covering its philosophical background! I still recommended "Numerology of I Ching" by Alfred Huang as foundation for studying eastern philosophy.Regardless my opinion, this book is still fun to read! Soooooo, three stars will do finely for review purpose.

I'm sorry but It did not teach me anything
It was all just too confusing... It tells me what the character means but it doesn't actually teach me how to do QMDJ or maybe that's in the next book.. I know you can't expect to learn QMDJ from reading a book but this... was just very confusing.

An open entrance to knowlegde at last!
I really appreciate the words of the previous reviewer. He openheartedly gives references to famous authors of wonderful books about Qi Men Dun Jia.Sadly, those wonderful books have actually not been translated into any western language. As a matter of fact there is, alas, a lack of knowledge about this wonderful cultural and philosophical treasure of the Chinese culture. Therefore I can recommend this book by Calvin Yap to anybody who are on the way to befriend themselves with this great culture.I have been a Feng Shui practitioner for about 20 years now and work with the technique of QMDJ on a daily basis. I regard this book a light and wonderful read for the open minded first contact. For the practitioner it is a good reference and complement to the highly valued classics. The author opens a gateway for the western reader to get closer to one core of the Chinese Metaphysic. Therefore the readers are invited to travel along a road with new thoughts and concepts reflected by this old technique to deal better with their lives. The examples in the book have a clear character, of course. The readers may be reminded that this book is planned as a starting point. I am looking forward to more to come. With my best regardsMellekai ([...]

do good deed, study hard
Not really informative. No guideline for interpretation. A chapter on 36 stratagems that one can find anywhere. History of date selection, but no explanation on how to proceed. Explanations on how to maximize your luck: practice Feng Shui, do good deed, study hard, etc. Comments from students, books from author, courses available and products for sale are probably the most interesting chapter of that book. The book I bought before "Practical Application of QMDJ" has the same features. I also bought his qmdj app which has a bug that has never been corrected. If one wants to really learn QMDJ, he should better buy Jerry King's book. QMDJ an ancient divination system. It is more informative and less expensive.

A great resource
I have been a armchair fan of various Chinese metaphysical systems for more years than I'm prepared to admit. Having paid a great deal of money for a private course on QMDJ I can assure you that this book is an incredible bargain and a very welcome resource for anyone who is prepared to apply the required time to gain an understanding of how it functions. You won't become a master overnight , but with this book as a starting point you can gain some understanding of the internal logic of this system, and start to apply it.I would also recommend Calvin's other books as a means to clarify doubts and to demonstrate the many different ways to generate the appropriate charts.

This is a book of plagiarism
Is Calvin Yap related to Master Joey Yap? I was told that the author is related to Joey Yap.This book may have infringed intellectual property rights.I am an occult enthusiast for many years and had collected many books from different cultures in various languages. I was very happy when I was recommended by a friend to buy this book, which I believe was one of the few English books on Qi Men Dun Jia here in the West. However, after flipping through the pages after it arrived, I realized that its content was copied from the famous Chinese Master of the same topic, Master Wang Feng Ling. With no reference to Master Wang, the author, Master Calvin Yap has committed a hideous crime of plagiarism. The supposedly useful gods in the book were copied word for word from Master Wang's book, "The art of the Emperor", with no reference to Master Wang and then translated literally into English. I am also doubtful if the prefaces written by the two masters in the book are genuine or they even existed! I have never heard of the names of the two Masters.I cannot believe that someone who is a practitioner of metaphysics and wrote about fairy and the triumph of good over evil in his book has no respect for intellectual property. The case studies in the book are shallow by comparison to other Chinese books in the market. The book meant to cover just the basics of the topic, but there is little connection between the use of the supposedly "ingredients" (useful gods) written in the beginning chapters to the analyses of the cases at the end of the book, leading to the belief that the author has never verified any of the "useful gods" himself. One cannot but wondered if these case studies are even genuine. Those interested in this topic is probably better off buying Chinese books from Hong Kong, China and Taiwan and then have them translated into English.

Erste richtige Anleitung zum Qi Men Dun Jia ...
Yo Peng Hokes "Reaching out for the stars" beleuchtet eher den sozio-kulturellen Hintergrund der daoistischen Metaphysik. Den parallel aufgelegten Qi Men Dun Jia Kalender sollte man gleich mitbestellen.Empfehlung für alle, die mit BaZi, Yi Jing und Feng Shui noch nicht genug haben : )P.S.: Englisch sollte man auch beherrschen!
