Christian focused devotional disguised as self help meditations.
Ugh please update to a religion free version. I would return it but I edited it myself. Very exclusive. I’m sad that the only literature out there on these topics are seem to be very Christian based. When I look at it, I see it’s bc they were written in the 80’s. If anyone knows about more recent, religion free, psychology books on codependency please suggest.I don’t understand how a meditation book on codependency can freely suggest a replacement attachment figure? Isn’t the whole goal of recovering from codependency to attach to yourself? So why are you promoting attachment to a God? Seems counterproductive and I’m sad I spent money on this book. The Calm app is way better.

Only for devout Christians, not for those who want to take responsibility for their healing
Writings are all about putting your faith in God that he will do a lot of the work and not taking full responsibility for your own healing. If you are not a devout Christian, then this book will not help you much. Almost every entry involves leaving some of the actions that need to be taken to God's will. May not be for everyone.

Most recommended book to clients
I have recommended this book to most of my female clients over the past 15 years. It has been extremely helpful as a daily reminder around learning to and staying out of the business of others, allowing others to make choices and handle the consequences. Yes, it is written with the 12 Step Program in mind, but that doesn't get in the way of the truth of each page. A reader doesn't need to be involved in 12 Step to get the wonderful benefits.

A must read
This book is extremely helpful for anyone in a co-dependent relationship, or any situation where personal boundaries are difficult to maintain. It helped me enormously be reinforcing that I do have the right to draw boundaries, even with people I want to be close to.

There are chapters with " words of wisdom " many would fine beneficial as they navigate the world as we know ...
Helpful for a variety of people not just individuals recovering from an addiction. I started reading this book to support a friend in recovery from alcohol . I realized the information is beneficial for so many others in our American society, especially those who have or are currently being ostracized, bullied , not following some of the superficial norms of society, those who have lost parents in their youth and/or not received basic guidelines in youth. There are chapters with " words of wisdom " many would fine beneficial as they navigate the world as we know it.

One of my favorite books!
I have read this book twice so far and plan on reading it again in th future. This book is educational and the writer has excellent insight into the human mind. I recommend reading this book especially if you have trouble accepting reality and are aware of your problem. When I say reality, I mean, for example you keep getting upset and angry because a certain person keeps treating you a certain way- this book helps you to understand that you need to accept who that person is and stop trying to change it or fighting the facts-that person is who they are and you are who you are.

I love this book, ease and peaceful.
I love this book. I love Melody's style. It makes me feel ease and peaceful. Her words touches me, she let me know I am important and I should take good care of myself. Growing up in a always emotional chaotic family with constant daily drama. I didn't realize how bad it was until few years ago. It was hard to come around at this stage of my life. I need a book like this one to make me feel good about myself, to really love myself and live a life just for myself. ......

Daily dose of perspective.
I was pleasantly surprised that this book is written in a daily reading format. That is doable to me. I’m a few pages in, and have recommended it to a friend! It’s good stuff-if you battle indecision, over thinking, high stress, and worry. Perspective is a good thing, and this book can help.

Life changer
This book has helped me massively get over both a broken relationship with my ex girlfriend and help me manage my addictions, the main one being alcohol. I am going to highly recommend this book to my AA group. After a week of reading it has really helped me assess myself and move forward to happiness with my recovery. If you need guidance following admission to yourself of being an addict or just need help with how to feel good about yourself and move forward, BUY THIS BOOK NOW, you won't regret it. Stu

The Daily Reminder I need to keep Co-Dependency from Controlling me!
I absolutely love this book so so much. I love Melody Beattie's writings, but this book gives a daily reminder for every day of the year.As someone who suffers from co-dependency issues, I find this inspirational and a life's guide. The back of the book reads: ‘Problems are made to be solved, Melody reminds us and the best thing we can do is take responsibility for our own pain and self-care. She guides us through the days, encouraging us to remember that each day is an opportunity for growth and renewal’…. Have very true this all is.

It will definitely help you, even if you're not codependent per se.
This book is a great, daily reminder to be kind to ourselves. It helps direct thoughts into a positive direction and get perspective on things. You can look at the glossary and find key words for specific problems, or read daily or whenever you need a bit of support and guidance. It is a spiritual book, and even thought she sometimes speaks of God, it is at no point religious. It is ecumenical at the very least and interpreting this "god" as a higher power / the universe / destiny or whatever you feel is right and works fo you, is not difficult at all.

Brilliant daily readings that keep me grounded in my truth
Absolutely brilliant of daily readings drawing on the insights from the author's seminal book Codependent No More. Each day I read something life-changing. Somehow it always seems to be just what I need and speaks to where I am that day. I know I will use it again next year because there is such richness to these readings and more to draw out. Having this feels like having a wise and kind friend to keep me grounded in my truth despite what's going on around me.
