Great & Comprehensive!
I've not read any martial arts books before, but this was extremely easy to pick up. The images are literally step by step, and very well demonstrated. If only Arab Archery had illustrations this detailed... Regardless, this book is great and simple to follow. You'll learn a lot.

Really good overview of the USMC combative program.
Well illustrated almost step by step guide to USMC Combative's program. Very curious about it, after seeing it re-enacted on TV. This book would make a good gift for someone considering joining the Marines or joining the Navy Green side Fleet Marine Force such as Corpsman, avionics air crew, Sea Bee Construction Battalion member.

My thoughts as a Marine and martial arts instructor…
Simple and straight to the point is exactly how self defense should be. In the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, you aren’t going to learn anything fancy or ground breaking. If you have a black belt in any martial art, you’ve probably done or seen most of the techniques in this book, aside from the bayonet material. Even comparing this to Krav Maga, I’d say MCMAP is a simplified version of it, and that is NOT a bad thing. Just depends on what you’re looking for.In this book, you’ll see basic defenses and counters to things like punches, kicks, grappling, bear hugs and various chokes. You’ll see your basic punches and elbows, kicks and takedowns, as well as some ground techniques. And, if it’s what you’re looking for, some knife/firearm/bayonet material. As a Marine and a martial arts instructor, who’s been training in various martial arts for my entire life, the number one piece of advice I’ve always been given regarding combat and training: go back to basics. That’s MCMAP. If you were to take the techniques in this book, train hard and train often, you’ll have everything you need to defend yourself - and nothing more. In my opinion, that’s perfect.Keep it simple, keep it straight to the point.

Endlich mal ein
gut bebldertes Buch, in dem man was sieht.

Excellent book
As an Ex-Cadet of the Royal Military College of Canada and someone who has studied martial arts in one form or another for 25 years, I greatly appreciated this book. It illustrates many basic techniques drawn from arts like judo and karate in a very practical and easily understandable way. I can see why this program has been such a success for the U.S. Marine Corps; I would very much like to see it adopted by the Canadian Forces.
