American Sign Language Concise Dictionary: Revised Edition

This book is helpful for learning sign language.

Amazing quality of used book, excellent condition at a fraction of what it would cost to purchase new. Seller even wrote a handwritten thank you note. I thought that was such a nice personal touch. Would definitely order again.

This is a pretty good dictionary for ALS, but I also bought the large ALS book that's even more concise. So, I have many and all are important for specific needs I have.

As a student of ASL, I've found this to be one of the best books on the market. It shows the true ASL way of signing a word, and explains the conceptual meaning. Many English words have a variety of meanings, (like "run"), so it gives synonyms to help ensure that students are using the correct sign for the concept they wish to share. It also gives detailed explanations on steps required to make the sign. along with the accompanying facial expressions, if needed. Plus, the resource often shows more than one way to sign the word or concept. Great tool!

Was disappointed when I received my copy of this...Cons1. Pictures on front cover misleading (the hand drawn illustrations are not that great, not saying they're horrible, but they're not too great either.2. The illustrations are pretty small (generally 3 different signs per page) so it's a factor on some of the clarity.Pros1. The small size could make it good for keeping with you, except it's kind of thick, so a bit bulky...2. Multiple versions of signs...though refer to #2 in cons it's difficult to see some of them clearly.3. Descriptions, saved the best off the pros for last...there are some decent descriptions about the signs.Overall it's a fair tool, but this is the third dictionary I've ordered and actual pictures of people signing is somewhat elusive, but that's what my ASL teacher suggested we get...so I'm still on the hunt for that I guess.

A good resource to have for anyone who wants to learn. I found American Sign Language [UNABRIDGED] byMartin L. Sternberg much more helpful. I would highly recommend it over this one but this book is good too.

I have Martin L Sternberg's first unabridged dictionary that I bought back in the 80's. I used it for several class I took back then. The drawings are clear and the written explaiations are clear. Bought this dictionay for a friend who is interested in learning american sign language. She will be taking a class in the fall and the instructor listed this dictionary as one of the items she will need. She is delighted with the size and the number of signs included in the dictionary. I would recommend this dictionary to anyone wants to learn sign language.

Great book for helping me learn sign language on my own.
