Hymns With Style

I had this book in childhood, and I love that my new copy is the exact same. The arrangement author stays true to classic key, tempo, and length; the embellished chords, and deliberate pauses create the drama needed for beautiful music. This would be a great songbook for special events at church or even to play at home. I hope more people find this book in their repertoire like I did. It always makes me sound more talented and capable of improv, and it is lovely to see the reactions of the audience.

I’ve been teaching myself to sight read the past month and a half and I have to say this is perfect for my reading level. Challenging enough to engage my brain and hone my skills, but approachable enough to make me feel like I’m doing something right. This is great for people who need to work on chord recognition and patterns and things of that nature. Love this book, gorgeous arrangements.

Excellent arrangements (it's not too often that you come across a piano book where you love every single arrangement in it). I am self taught and I play LI/EA/A sheet music. These are all easy to sight read and the arrangements are beautiful. When playing at church, these are not too difficult so that I can get through them when my nerves make me a mess.

I am enjoying playing these arrangements. They are very approachable and easy to prepare on short notice. So nice to have new things to play.

These arrangements are wonderfully done. Jerry Ray always does a beautiful job of arranging hymns.

These are really nice arrangements of some well-loved hymns. They are about an upper intermediate level, so if you are an advanced pianist, you can just about sight-read them. The arrangements are interesting enough that they don't sound simple, so can be used to play in church for specials or preludes with little to no practice.

I remember loving this book as a young pianist! That being said, it is definitely more early intermediate. Definitely something I can use, being a piano teacher! But wasn't sure when I got it how difficult it would be. But I do love it! Lots of nice chords to begin introducing chord substitution!

To intermediate: If you have a plan to buy this and go through the book it by yourself. You may not achieve the best of the composer's ideas. Nice arrangements and some people my find it difficult to bring the interpretations required by the author. I personally did not like two pieces there but that is taste. Apart from that I would classify as a good book.
