It's cat proof. You can keep it on your counter without worrying if the cat is going to get the butter. (Which he could with the three other styles of butter dishes I tried and couldn't with this one in spite of his best efforts.) The top is clear enough to easily see how much butter is in it. It will also be useful for taking butter to a picnic or potluck. Exactly what I needed. I got two so one can be in the dishwasher while the other protects the butter.

My wife had purchased a butter container from Pampered Chef or Tupperware or someplace like that. Honestly, that one worked a little better because it was made for the "West Coast" butter, and I live on the west coast. But, that one went on a camping trip and never came home. I could never find it again online, so I chose this as a replacement.I like to keep butter in the cupboard above the toaster, and this works great for that. Also, when we take butter camping, I like to store it in the cooler, especially for those hot days. This one is great because it doesn't let the water in.Pros:* Nice tight seal on the container* Wide enough to fit the west coast butter sticks. Long enough that you can add another stick once the first one is almost gone.* Rim around the edge holds the butter stick in place, yet is low enough that you can get to it easily with a knife* Clear upper lid lets you see at a glance how much butter is left* Looks nice enough to put on the dinner table. No, it isn't fine china, but it doesn't look bad.* Price is good for this. If you can find it locally it would probably be cheaper, but still a good deal.Cons:* Since I'm on the west coast, this is a little longer than what is necessary. Not a big deal, but it does take up slightly more space.

The main thing I wanted was a butter dish that accommodates the thicker, taller Western USA size of butter stick, and these do! They're also long enough to easily accommodate Eastern USA sizes too, but the rim of the tray, the bottom piece, takes up a little more space that I wish it did, since I wanted the least additional material due to limited space in my fridge. The pieces fit together properly, thus ensuring an almost airtight seal for freshness of the butter. The only detraction is that butter sits well below the sidewalls, which makes it difficult to slice butter without cutting on the sidewalls. I recommend redesigning the base so that the bottom of the butter stick is at or above the level of surrounding material. Durability: being Rubbermaid, I am sure it will hold up fine for years with occasional top-rack dishwasher cleaning. I give it an A for overall satisfaction.

I replace our set of these every year because we use them daily. We use one in the refrigerator and keep one on the counter. They keep butter fresh and are easy to clean. Love the red color, too.

After breaking the lids to two different glass dishes, I told my kids that this is why we can't have nice things (haha) and bought these. This is just what you would expect if you've ever used Rubbermaid food storage. It does have a bit of a lip that makes slicing butter awkward, especially if your butter is cold. But if your butter melts at all, the lip will also keep it from going everywhere when you take off the lid. We leave our butter out, and at room temperature it is easy to get the butter off, lip and all.As an added bonus, it is a 2 pack, so you can be using one while waiting for the other to run through the dishwasher, or you can use one for replacement parts for the day when your kid loses the bottom under the stove or couch, or puts the lid in a toy box or something.

After my butter dish fell from the refrigerator and broke, I decided no more breakable butter dishes. This is a great little butter dish. I got the pack of two. I just put it in the dishwasher and it comes out great. It fits a stick of butter just fine. I gave it one star for easy to spread because I thought that was a silly thing to put there. Everyone knows butter in a stick is hard to spread unless you leave it out of the fridge for a while. This butter dish serves the purpose for what I wanted very well. I would buy again if I needed to. I came in only red, but I didn't care. Color doesn't matter if the thing is no good. It is just as it appears in the picture displayed. No surprises.

We wanted something simple, light weight and that fits in the butter compartment. This passes all of our requirements. I read that someone felt like the lid didn't fit. My guess is they were trying it on the wrong side - like trying to putting the opposite sides of magnets together.The only thing we didn't care for is having to buy two and not just one. Still, it's a good value.

I love Rubbermaid butter dishes, and hunted all over to find replacements when I moved. Finally typed in "Rubbermaid butter dishes" into the Amazon search box, and there they were!Pros: convenient and unbreakable. Will accommodate 1/4-lb sticks, either standard or the short fat ones. Lids lock on, so if you bump it, the dish scoots but the lid isn't knocked into the butter. If you knock it onto the floor, the mess will likely be confined inside. Lids are easy enough to remove - there's a tab at one corner to pry up.Cons: will not accommodate a full pound block, if that's your thing. Butter needs to be centered in dish, or lid will brush it when lifted off or replaced, making a bit of a mess with soft butter. Should be washed between sticks - that's why they're sold in pairs.

Great container for keeping sticks (1/4 lb) of butter fresh and avoiding the mess that goes with keeping them in the foil wrapper partially used. Recommended. One addition that would be great would be to have measurements marked on the container to show amounts, e.g. 1 Tablespoon.
