I was very pleasantly suprised with this book, the schetches are well done, most very detailed.In the era Poulton drew these, they would be classed as pornographic, maybe taboo.They still stand up well today as erotic art.

A classic "dirty book" of drawings - and witty, too!

I only recently discovered Poulton's work on the internet. I love the idea of a proper English gentlemen who on the surface is a hard working and successful medical illustrator who has a kinky side to him and created these very unique erotic images in a time when he might have been jailed for them! Absolutely great draftsmanship done in the style of the period. You'll find no Japanese "anime" style here. Wonderfully naughty concepts but some might find a couple of the images a bit nasty as they have to do with urination. If you enjoy erotic art and classic drawings, I would recommend it.

Let's be clear: you have to know yourself and your own sensibilities before picking up this book. It is absolutely frank and uninhibited, and Poulton had no reservations about playing with the taboos of his time (1899-1963) and culture (educated British). If that doesn't deter you, however, you'll discover an artist who matched his considerable skills (he was a professional medical illustrator) with a keen awareness of the range of human sexual expression. It's impossible to know how much of what he drew he first witnessed, or whether he invented all his provocative scenarios from whole cloth. Either way, it would have been a loss had Poulton's secret hobby not come to light nearly 50 years after his death.

It was a nice book of black & white art drawings of material that would have been quite shocking for it's day but seem tame by todays standards.

So a medical illustrator indulges his secret penchant for sexual imagery. The result is what used to be called "smut". Somehow these images, some of which are crude and sketchy, make sexual acts seem dirty, unbeautiful. Lots of emphasis on genitalia of course, some grotesquely portrayed, and stereotyped images of women's faces in the throes of sexual delight. I enjoy frank sexual imagery, but these black and white cartoon like images would have been better left in whatever bottom drawer they were discovered. I returned this book right away.(If you're tempted to make a snide comment on this review, please spare yourself the trouble, as I won't be reading it.)

Sensacional !, Tom Poulton é um master na arte erótica , e se vcs procuram algo feito a lápis , esse é o livro , e para os mais púdicos, tem a " Sobrecapa "de Immanuel Kant que lhe permite inverter a capa como se um livro dele fosse .... para que seu papai , ou mamãe não saibam que você está consumindo esse tipo de conteúdo ....( kkkkkkkkkk), mas é um livro sensacional , e o material é ótimo , na mesma linha recomendo , Erótica Universalis .... da Taschen Também .

Nonostante il formato non proprio entusiasmante (si tratta di un volumetto delle dimensioni di un comune romanzo in edizione rilegata), la qualità dei materiali e della realizzazione è ineccepibile.Peccato solo che, vista la non vastissima produzione dell'autore e il fatto che buona parte della stessa è stata sotto forma di schizzi gettati sulla carta al momento, solo pochi disegni godano di una presentazione a piena pagina.A parte questo "difetto" (che gli fa meritare 3 stelle anziché 4 o 5), direi che è un "must have" per quanti si interessino di disegno erotico, in quanto offre una panoramica assolutamente inaspettata, vista l'origine ed il periodo storico nel quale questa raccolta è stata realizzata (la puritana Inghilterra negli anni dell'immediato secondo dopoguerra) che lo rende vieppiù interessante anche dal punto di vista storico e dei costumi, in quanto Poulton non era solo un disegnatore molto efficace dal punto di vista... anatomico ma anche dal punto di vista degli abiti, delle acconciature etc.Il fatto che (almeno per il momento) lo si possa poi reperire per un prezzo tutto sommato interessante (poco più di una decina di euro), rende questo volume ancor più attraente.Decisamente non per tutti ma comunque molto valido.

This is a superb collection of erotic art which takes the form of soft pencil sketches depicting the a wide range of scenes from the amatory arts, mostly F/M but with some F/F and threesomes. Poulton manages to capture the poses of the human body in a way that emphasises the erotic nature of the scenes in wholly credible scenarios, but perhaps his greatest achievement lies in representing the human face as a potent indicator of the pleasurable emotions being felt in these intense scenarios. This large collection of drawings contains a good measure of either preliminary studies or amplifications, all provided integrally with their related scenes. Poulton also indulged in erotic fiction, and two of his short stories are presented here along with German and French versions. The volume is amusingly furnished with a dust-jacket which offers an inoffensive alternative on its reverse side, intended (somewhat tongue-in-cheek) to improve its acceptability when being read in a public place. This identifies the book as Immanuel Kant's (fictitious) 'The Principles of Critical Philosophy'.
