Great research, beautiful way to present our current Public Education System.
Currently, I am a Senior Interior Design Student and this book helped me so much in understanding my Senior Thesis topic on Alternative Learning Enviroments for Public Primary Education. I want to create a design that can re-enforce these ideas inside this book and help children understand their individuality, value, and real problem-solving skills. School shouldn't just be about curriculum, it takes understanding the person in order to create a healthy learning enviroment. Everyone should read this book if you have children, feel low self-esteem about the public education system and want to understand its issues, and looking at more holistic approaches to true education. Teaching is an art form!

The schools we are looking for...
Creative Schools is a follow-up and response to Ken Robinson's 2006 TED Talk. This is an informative and engaging read for educators, parents, and policymakers alike! Ken’s whit and honesty help to convey a critical topic in this easy read.In his book, Ken works to trace the history of the issues currently facing education systems today. As an educator, I especially appreciated his review of the multitude of factors influencing education today, beyond the standards-based reform movement. Ken establishes clear purposes for change in education, and a means to enact that change. One important takeaway from his book was the recognition that teachers are not alone in their responsibility for what happens in the classroom. Policymakers and principals alike play a vital role in improving and making a change. “There’s a difference between leadership and management. Leadership is about vision; management is about implementation. Both are essential” (186). Robinson does not suggest this change is quick or easy; but, does challenge all participants to enact small changes which can result in a great movement by all educators together.

Please just teach them to read good stuff and write with deep reflection
Truth! He outlines the very root of the problem. Kids need to be invested in their own education. Learning occurs when passions are unleashed and enthusiasm rules. These global awareness, environmental, community collaboration objectives are stale and unappealing as well as worthless. Please just teach them to read good stuff and write with deep reflection. Math needs to be concrete and relevant. Vigorous curriculum does not equal higher test scores...in fact, to heck with all the standardized testing. It's making kids HATE learning. We need an educational revolution, but we need teachers in charge and we need the government to butt completely out.

Great read, very enlightening.
This text challenged everything I thought I knew about the institution of public schools. I had no idea that the industrialization of our nation played so heavily upon the structure of schools. Sadly, I was shocked to realize that those antiquated ideals and structures are still what govern public school systems today. Robinson and Aronica do a tremendous job bringing to light the issues plaguing education in today's America. They offer wonderful stories and metaphors to what our education could and frankly should be. I left this book feeling inspired and ready to change my practice and be a part of the movement to help formulate a new school culture and climate within my own organization.

READ IT! Maybe every year!
Ken Robinson has an outstanding grasp of the nuts and bolts of public education, why it's important, and how to make it better. As a teacher, it inspired me. He has practical input for teachers, principals, superintendents, and parents.

Great book-missing 30 pages
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. I have really enjoyed this book as part of my graduate program. Unfortunately, it looks like my pages 135-136 is split in half and the other part is missing... it then is missing pages 137-167... missing 30 pages?? That’s crazy. I’m not sure what happened, I’m sure it was a mistake, but I’m not sure what to do. Should I return it for another copy?

Essential Reading
Every educator should read this book - plus check out Ken Robinson on TED TALKS. At this time as our new Sec. of Education seems determined to do away with public education.. Robinson suggests a more holistic approach - which I tried to do as a teacher 30 years ago..Fundamental Christians seem so afraid we might be teaching "religion". Far from it. Since we are all physical, mental, emotional and spiritual beings, isn't time we honored all aspects of our students.

Molte info utili!

Excellent case studies of personalized, engaged global schools
I gave this book a 5 star rating because it provided a clear, practical and inspiring micro and macro look at schools across the world that are successfully integrating a climate of creativity. I found it helpful to get inside the heads of innovative school leaders to hear what questions and approaches they are incorporating in cultures as diverse as Argentina to Ottawa, Canada. A must-read for high school teachers like me and for principals and superintendents everywhere to learn how we can create the kind of "rigorous, personalized, engaged, holistic learning environment" in which we are the change we want to see in the education system.

Great
Nothing disruptive, nothing transcendentally new, but very interesting for personal help and reflection on what it is to be creative and how creativity can positively surprise us.From Sir Robinson I expected nothing less. Strongly recommend anyone who has the time, interest, and self-reflection ability about their (pro)creative practices

Great ideas
Lots of great ideas and examples, and I suppose the main goal of this book is to inspire people to work for, or at least advocate for, change in education. However, after a while the endless series of brief examples and anecdotes got a bit tiring. I think I would have liked to see a more cohesive ending, even considering the author's point that there is no one, "solution for education" or right way to do things. Overall, though, a worthwhile read if you want lots of examples of how educational reform can happen, and what some core goals of such reform could be.
