Beautiful watercolors, only.
Beautiful watercolors. Too much personal info, as in a autobiography, instead or techniques, how to.... etc.

Buy it in print form!
Beautiful book, but I wish I had bought it in print instead of Kindle. The format is not great on Kindle. This is one of the few Kindle books that I have purchased out of many art books, that I have had this trouble with.

Great Book, But The Digital Edition is Unreadable
I love Jean Haines' work, but i bought this book as a digit download. As a download, the book is unreadable. I wish I would have bought the paperback edition. I have bought other books Jean has written in paperback, and they are excellent. I am so disappointed that this book was sold in an unreadable format when Amazon knew that the book was formatted incorrectly.

Much as I love my Kindle
This exquisite book has inspired me to take up watercolor again. I've always preferred impressionistic paintings to realism so I was drawn to Jean Haines' style immensely. She seems to be a lovely person who is so generous about sharing her tips. That is so helpful!! Much as I love my Kindle, I would not have even considered downloading a beautiful book like this onto it. It is important to see the gorgeous paintings in book form. I'm thinking of ordering more of her books as well as her DVD.I'm so pleased that I discovered Jean Haines!

Buy it if you want to learn how to let the watercolor be in charge!
I LOVE this book. It is perfect for anyone who wants to learn how to "let go" and learn how to be free with watercolor. I have MANYwatercolor books...this is my favorite.

Fabulous philosophy
Great tips of which warm ups is one of best! Some days it is ok to just do the warm ups! She inspires one to enter it playfully.....some people choose a different path I prefer the loose , misty style except in portraits for one time clients who want more realism , but when one does these , the clients often evolve too into seeing, knowing the beauty of the empty space and hints of the " objects"She is a lovely addition to any artists library Deena

A keeper that I believe will reread several times.
Not only instructional but inspirational. I'm just a dabbler in watercolor painting, but love the way Jean Haines paints. Reading her book has improved my dabbling in my eyes and I've been making time for painting and/or drawing daily. One of the easiest and best changes I made after reading and doing the exercises in the book was holding my brush loosely and softly stroking the paper. I used to be one of those who held her breath as she painted. Now painting is a much more relaxing activity for me.

I love Ms. Haines' work
I love Ms. Haines' work, and this book takes you further into her mind as she paints various subjects. I was very happy to add this to my collection. It takes you through everything from selection of paint and tools through realizing your vision in paint. It won't make you another Jean Haines, but I'm certain it will add to any reader's repertoire of techniques.

Don't judge a book by its cover
Be warned - the best painting in this book is the one on the cover. Ms Haines demonstrates a lot of the common techniques in painting watercolour 'fast and loose', such as puddling, back-runs, spattering and covering with cling wrap to create texture. If you already have one of the many books that describe these techniques, I doubt whether you need this one - it doesn't really demonstrate anything new or inspiring. To my eye, the end points of the projects in the book are assemblages of accidental mixings of water and pigment that have been forced into a semblance of flowers, animals or birds, techniques that are demonstrated much more successfully in earlier watercolour technique books by Charles Reid and others. So if you are a beginning watercolour artist who wants to learn some of the basic techniques that will help you loosen up your painting through 'happy accidents' this book is as good a place as any to start. However, if you are an intermediate or advanced water-colourist looking for something new and you like the painting on the cover - forget it! The paintings inside the book are far inferior.

Passion abounds
This book is wonderful on several fronts in my opinion. I received my copy just before I went on holiday and only now am I able to enjoy and read it-properly. I do believe in order to write a review one has to read the book though one person apparently can write a review without reading the book! The firs thing that registered with me was the gorgeous, vibrant kingfisher on the cover. I had of course seen photo of said kingfisher but the reality is so much more beautiful. Also throughout the book the photography and colours are really alive and striking. This book is so well written that it can stand alone as a very readable book indeed. Jean's enthusiasm and passion are very eloquently delivered from start to finishThe wonderful demonstrations and exercises are very clear and exciting and I know from experience that Jean makes them look easier than I will find them! But I will certainly enjoy trying and learning along the way. Some new zinging colours to try too.At Jean's workshops she exudes the same enthusiasm and passion which is so evident in her book. Jean has an innate ability to make her students (I'm sure I'm not the only one!) believe in their own ability .....I can't always translate it on to my paper but I will keep TRYING.All in all a wonderful book both to read and work from

Used but prisinte
This lovely book is an old library book, but I don't think anyone can have read it during its life as a library book. It arrives in library protective covers and absolutely new condition otherwise.

Challenging book.
I do like seeing the paintings, but disappointed in myself for having the feeling that they are incomplete.I should be liking them as they are, and not want to add just a bit more paint because I'm sure that would spoil your painting.I know they are superb, but have a little unease.
