MIU 5-Piece Stainless Steel Measuring Cup Set

I have owned this MIU 5-Piece Stainless Steel Measuring Cup Set (m/n 91686) for several years now and am unsure about them.Pros: I like the sizes included (⅛, ¼, ⅓, ½, & 1 cup), and the transition from the handle to the cup is smooth, making for a clean, even sweep to level the contents.Cons: The ½ cup handle broke off a few years ago, and I actually paid to have it spot-welded back on (Note: I wish, for the cost of this service, I would had him reinforce ALL of the cups' handles, though I did not think of that at the time. Fortunately, have not had any other problems with this, so far).Also, I am unsure about their accuracy: 1 level cup of flour should weigh 5 oz., and it does; so ½ level cup of flour should weigh 2½ oz., but mine weighs 2⅜ oz. Similarly, 1 level cup of white sugar should weigh 7 oz., but mine weighs 7⅞ oz., and ½ level cup of white sugar should weigh 3½ oz., but mine weighs 3⅞ oz. I know flour weight could vary due to how tightly it's packed (I tried to keep it loose), but the white sugar weight should vary less (I just scooped & leveled, without packing it at all). There's also the accuracy of my scale to consider; it's the OXO Good Grips Food Scale with Pull-Out Display (top-rated by America's Test Kitchen).I want to like and recommend these measuring cups, but just do not have enough accurate information.

I bought these measuring cups for myself because I had been using a cheap set of plastic ones for years. These are very sturdy and the handles are long (good for reaching in containers). I love having the 1/8 cup too since my previous set did not have one. The only problems I've had with them is that the 1 cup size is very wide so it cannot fit easily into all containers. A lot of times I just use the half cup twice because it's easier to handle. Also, the metal, though sturdy, is thin enough that I once cut my hand on the edge of one of the cups while washing it.

You get what you pay for, and these are definitely high quality. I expect to have these for the rest of my life. The markings are easy to read, and they do the job of measuring/scooping just as you would expect. Go figure!

The only parts of these measuring cups that are made of the thicker 18/10 stainless steel claimed in the description are the handles. The cups themselves are of the thin, thin, thin metal, with a matte finish on the inside. Not what I expected, nor wanted. Doesn't match the odd-sized cups, which are of the thicker metal. I'll be returning these.

I've had these for several years now and I use all of them occasionally.They are sturdy, easy to use, easy to clean up and easy to make accurate measurements with. The shape lends itself to even measuring with the back of a knife.I know they are expensive and you can buy 20 sets of the cheapy plastic ones for the money. If you like cooking then these are a must - quit making things harder on yourself with sub-par equipment. If you cook a lot invest the money in making it a pleasure to cook instead of a hassle because you cheaped out on your tools. That is really what it boils down to.Recommended.

I've had these measuring cups for a few months and so far I love them. They're heavy and seem to be well made.My only concern is that the handles are not integral to the cups, and might come detached with rough use. I'm not babying them though, I keep them in a drawer with other stuff, and put them through the washer when they need cleaning, so if they don't fail for me they probably won't fail for you either. If they do fail I'll be sure to udate this review, so stay tuned.

i expected more from this brand. many scratches and handles are attached so some are slightly about the cup. i will return them.

I really like these measuring cups. They are sturdy, solid and have long handles, which are nice for keeping your hands out of whatever it is you're measuring. Thay are stainless and can go into the dishwasher. It is great that they come with a 1/8 cup measure which most sets do not. 1/8 cup is 2 Tbsp, which is required for a surprising number of recipes. My mother liked them so well, she wanted her own set, and she hardly even cooks anymore.
