Take your time and read through this book. If you follow closely, you will see that you need specific land and appropriate resources to achieve the level of self-sufficiency as described in the book. It's got plans, pictures, explanations, and more. The best way to see if you like the book is to try some methods and practice some of the ways. There is no other remedy to being on your own than trial and error. At least with a book like this, you can experience less errors...

I got this book in case shtf. Very informative book. Lots of pictures and so much to learn if you read.

I just got this and have only skimmed through it and read certain sections. It seems like it will be a good starting place for anyone interested in living a more self-sufficient lifestyle. It covers a wide variety of topics (gardening, raising animals, butchering, milling grain, making butter, preserving food, making wine, managing waste, wind power, knots, making bricks, and much more). Around 140 pages are dedicated to gardening, so I would say that is what the book focuses on the most. Because it covers a wide range of topics, it is a good place to start, but can't go into lots of detail about every subject. So I would say this book is more of a starting point, something to help you realize what things you would like to know more about. There were quite a few terms I was unfamiliar with just from skimming this book. There is a glossary in the back, though, which is helpful, but not every term I didn't understand was in there. The illustrations are clear and informative. Overall, it is a nice starting place, just not 100% what I was expecting for some reason.

Good updated longer edition of the original 1976 book ( which I still have); includes new material, color pictures and more material. Almost twice the size & weight of the original. I bought the hardcover copy, it is in perfect condition, came in heavy cardboard package so the book was well protected from moving around with resultant corner damage. Kudos to seller.
