Grammar Form and Function, Book 1

I'm an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher in a community center in Chicago. I work with adult English beginners. I like this book for my students because it's cumulative (all lessons build upon previous lessons) and the exercises are straightforward.

This book is a great book to begin with, if you butcher the English language. It starts you from the very beginning and how to construct a proper sentence. For example a noun and an article. From there it goes into participles, and gives you keys on how to spell words correctly. The workbook is not a must unless you feel you need extra practice, because the student book contains practice excerises in it. Great for those of us who never learned how to properly speak. This is a great beginning book for those who do not know how to speak, but for those looking for technical grammar, it maybe too basic. In other words, if you have a good foundation of grammar, this is not the book to use to help you with. If you do not have a good grasp on grammar, this is the book for you.

If I only had one grammar book to use with students, this would be it.
