Explosive Stock Trading Strategies Hardcover – May 31, 2011

I've read Dr Elias' first book, which is fantastic : there's a first part on managing long term stock positions with short options, and a second part on short-term trading. The quality of the information in this first book has encouraged me to buy this second book "Explosive Stock Trading Strategies", which is quite different from the first : no options, just stocks.The author, who runs local trade groups, has observed that trading success comes when a person trades a system which is matched with his(her) personality.I'll take my own example : I've tried hard to follow the "long-term" stock+option strategies described in his first book, but I just can't ! If I loose $2 on the stock, but make $0.50 on an short option, I still loose $1.50 on the global position : I can of course sell more options the following months, keep the stock, until break even and profit, BUT, it makes me feel very frustrated, and psychologically, I'm not "in the zone" anymore and make bad decisions (I think "this stock is due for a bounce and will rebound", so I stay with it... but it continues to plunge ; or I think "it will never move up" and I sell right at the bottom of the correction, etc ...). Ironically, when I "trend-trade", I'm much more relaxed and I do not take bad, hasty decisions.So : even if a system is robust and works, if you psychologically can't trade it, you'll loose money (at least : I've lost money).There are lots of "personality traits" that the author has observed : for example, some people won't be comfortable buying a stock that is not sound fundamentally, some prefer trading bar charts, some prefer chart patterns, some rely on indicators, some prefer long-term trades, some prefer bar chart patterns, some prefer trading breakouts, while still others trade falling knives, etc ...What is offered here is a bunch of trading setups, designed to fit almost each trader's personality. I've read a lot of trading books, but what I have found in this one is 100% original : you combine the Mass Index with the Money Flow Index to predict breakouts, you use the channel between an ADX and an MACD on percentage change to catch reversals, you use both triple stochastics and MACD divergence to predict trend change, etc ...I am quite convinced that every reader will find a setup that matches his style.Furthermore, the setups have the potential to deliver substantial profits ... check the generatethousands.com site for the track record of the author if you need to be convinced.And there's more : for almost each entry, the author also explains how to exit, so that you can manage your trade from the beginning to the end.I'm still in the process of testing the ideas : some work better on some stocks than others, but this book contains so much information, and so much creative combinations that you sincerely can't go wrong with it.My main criticism : the author has not provided the scanning software(s) he uses to find his trading candidates ... I'm still looking for a way to scan stocks on fundamental criteria such as retained earnings ... :o( (please leave me a comment if you know how to do it !)To conclude, it is an excellent book, highly recommended : Dr. Samir Elias opens new doors with his book - A true five stars.

Although selected chapters are useful for beginners, the bulk of this book is best suited for intermediate level traders. If you invest the time to learn and make an effort to implement the strategies in this book in your actual trades, you will reap big profits in the short as well as the long run as I did.To help make it easier for readers to implement the strategies, the author provides several examples on each setup with clear entry and exit signals. I found this to be useful in clarifying the concepts, where I was able to confirm the existence of a specific setup by comparing the stock I identify to one of the examples in the book.I have this book to thank, specifically Chapter 12, for delivering a significant profit into my retirement account in the last year. In this chapter, the author introduces the RESHE system to identify stocks that are likely to produce monstrous moves over several months. Using this system, I found Eqix, Celg, Cog, Now, Armh, Fnp, and Cree among others while they are still in a basing pattern unrecognized by big money.By programming ideas in the chapter on reverse price swings into an Excel Marco, I was able to easily use these strategies to exit stocks within five percent of the top. This is remarkable since only price bars with no technical indicators are used. The author does compare the results to using technical indicators showing amazing accuracy.When swing trading, I often struggled with emotions and subjectivity affecting my trades. In Chapter 6 on signal price bars, the author provides a mechanical system with clear entry and exit signals as well as reverse signals (long to short and vice versa) that makes trades free of emotions and delivers continuous profits. My experience when swing trading stocks meeting the criteria in the book has been profits of no less than 25% from the time of starting to swing trade a stock until moving to another one. Knowing when to stop swing trading a stock and move on to the next is another excellent feature of this system.This book is well written in a straight to the point style. Each concept is very clearly described with the reasons for using the specific indicators explained. This allows the trader to understand 'the why' as well as 'the how' behind each technique. Every idea is also supported with real market examples that demonstrate its effectiveness with very clear entry and exit signals.

What a great book! I loved the Falling Knife chapter and also the RESHE method of filtering for best shares. In fact, using RESHE I managed to achieve gains of over 40% in individual shares in months. The average seems to be between 40-120% though one of my shares shot up over 200%. The only problem was I had to manually study the balance sheets for shares on Yahoo that met the RESHE criteria which took months. I originally used ycharts to scan for RESHE shares but with their cheapest annual subscription costing $480 I didn't stay for a second year. In the end I hired a programmer to create scanning software for me which scans for RESHE using the free Yahoo website and that's what I use now. It's a bit clunky but it works so if you're interested in the scanning software, let me know. RESHE, in my opinion, is one of the best fundamental methods for finding 'explosive shares' I know of. Thank you Dr Samir Elias for such a great book and ingenious trading setups!!
