A MUST HAVE BUJINKAN TRAINING BOOK.
Unarmed Fighting is a must have for the Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu practicioner. Like some have mentioned, this book is not meant to be understood without a Bujinkan instructor with a deep rooted foundation in budo. There are no step-by-step photos and the techniques are translated from the Japanese Densho and Ten Chi Jin so it gets confusing even for someone with many years of experience. Without "kuden" this book will not be as useful for a beginner. If you already have a teacher, then you will require this text book for your training. This book was originally 35.00 and if you are persistant you can still find a copy for cheap. Hope this helps.

I think this is an excellent source for Bujinkan reference
I think this is an excellent source for Bujinkan reference. I thought this was a great book with good information for a student of Japanese martial arts.Side note - Chris Carbonaro has a DVD that reads from some of the Koto-ryu techniques here. It's actually pretty cool to put both of those together. See "Bujinkan Keiko Kai Volume:1 Koto-Ryu and Katana Kihon" if you're interested in that.

only useful for budoka!
This book is awesome... if you already know the kata described within. The instructions are too vague to learn from, but I'm sure this was done on purpose. the details are something like "block with left hand, then throw". If you already learned the kata this book is a helpful reminder and I use to remind myself of some details or find out where a kata comes from.

More than a martial arts book
Fighting Techniques is a multi-layered book. While sold as a martial arts book, it is also an art book and a book on philosophy. The martial arts portion consists of the scrolls, both in photographs and translation, of the various schools of martial arts that the author holds. These scrolls at one time were secret and never revealed to the public. The art book is obvious from the photographs and composition. The text, other than the martial arts portion, are the author's philosophy.

This is for the initiate.
This is for the initiate. I think this is basically the ninja scrolls (or are there only parts) with philosophical parts. Reading it feels sometimes like reading philosophy from Soke, sometimes like reading notes. I personnaly read a lot of it multiple times and would not part with it.

Excellent book
This book is great for those who practice ninjutsu. Each technique is thoroughly explained and will help you further master the techniques you have already learned. I would not recommend this book for a beginner or someone not familiar with the techniques as they might be hard to understand.

Great work for reference
Great work for reference, but one needs to get the teachings from a live teacher not from the book.Quite interesting as well, is the way mr. Hatsumi 'speaks': in a real Japanese, and rhetoric style. A knowledgeable person.

Simply the best book I own
Wow! This book is a must have. It explains and clarifies all the questions you still had, have and don't even knew about ninjutsu ninpo. Great pictures, drawings, original scrolls and much more. This is the essence of not only budo or ninjutsu ninpo, but the foundation of it all. A most welcome book for all martial arts practioners, may it be judo or karate, bojutsu or kendo. "Unarmed Fighting Techniques of the Samurai" the title reads, but the word "Ninja" should be included as well. A great buy! The print quality is of a high (arts book) level too. You can't go wrong with this one.

Piece of Art
The new book of Sensei Hastsumi is a must have for any practitioner of martial arts, especially for people from the bujinkan. In my opinion the book is divided in two layers, the first layer are general principles and stories with martial art content, the second layer consists of descriptions of the various techniques of the 9 old Bujinkan-Ryus. The first layer is essential for anyone studying martial art, the second layer can only be understood by long year students of Sensei Hatsumi. But, anyone can gain from and delve into the many photographic pictures, drawings from old Japan and of our times, that are more than beautiful and really placed in a creative arrangement. Sensei Hatsumi not only transmits the secret principle of any martial art, but he also does it in an extreme beautiful, playfull and creative way.A piece of Art!
