I bought this as a gift and unfortunately the return date passed before realized the tab to activate the blue light wasn't there.

Bought 2, only 1 worked.

The LED at-home whiteners have become hugely popular, promising to deliver those elusive white teeth at a fraction of the cost a dentist would charge. Natural tooth color is largely a function of genetics, but as a regular consumer of coffee and red wine, I'd noticed my teeth becoming an unattractive shade of gray.The kit arrived in a cheerfully-decorated box, suitable for gift-giving if you want to get passive aggressive with a frenemy. The contents: two syringes of whitening agent (nowhere could I find whether they contained carbamide or hydrogen peroxide, or the concentration %), a mouth tray, the LED light with two batteries, and a case for the mouth tray. There is no travel bag.The directions tell you to "fill" the mouth tray with .5ml gel. Each syringe holds 6cc gel (same as ml, so why not use the same nomenclature?) and there's no way that .5ml is enough product to coat half the mouth tray. In fact, my first time using the device, it took half the syringe to coat both tray halves. Horrified, I scaled back and barely had enough product to get through six days.The tray slides into the LED light, and it just as easily slides out. After some frustrations, I figured out how to keep it in place, and even managed to clean house wearing it, feeling like a floor-scrubbing blue light special.Seems as though most of the problems people encounter with these whiteners are related to sensitivity -- I don't have sensitive teeth/gums -- and the inability to shape the mouth tray accurately. Since the Nu Smiile product comes with a one-size-fits-all tray, that's not an issue, and the tray is made of a thick material (vs the adjustable trays that often feel flimsy).Net result: the product removed a few layers of grunge from my teeth, and I am satisfied. I'll be ordering more gel -- probably not from Nu Smiile -- to use the tray/LED again in a few weeks. It's something of a hassle, having to dedicate 20 minutes a day to the process, but the results are worth it.

To start, I should mention that my teeth aren't very stained and are, for the most part, quite white. But I do have some yellowing near my gum line and a couple teeth that aren't as white as the others. I've used white strips in the past (though it's been a couple years) and have had good success, but they're pretty expensive and make my teeth so sensitive. So I was excited to compare this system. I used it for 7 days and while the system is super easy to use, I don't think I saw great results... But it could definitely be because my teeth just aren't bad enough to see them.What I loved:-The packaging: OK seriously, this packaging is the cutest!! It made me so happy just to open. I love a product that offers a whole experience and think this is so fun and perfect for a teeth whitening product.-Easy to use: The instructions are pretty simple and it's easy to figure out. It took me a second to figure out how to activate the blue light, but I eventually did.-I didn't really experience sensitivity like I do with white strips. My lips tingled a bit immediately after using the product, but my teeth didn't hurt at all. This could be because the product isn't as strong as white strips, but I was happy not to have that pain.-You can buy gel refills for the mold so you don't have to buy a whole new system if you want to use it again.What I didn't love:-Like I mentioned, I didn't see a huge change in the color of my teeth. Though it could very well be that my teeth aren't stained enough to really see a difference. I imagine if your teeth are quite yellow that this system could help bring them a shade or two whiter.-It's a little awkward to use: Let's just say that if I try to avoid seeing people when I have white strips in, I REALLY try to avoid them when I'm using this mold and blue light. Honestly, every time I used it (only when I was home alone!), my dog just stared at me like "what the heck."-I wasn't totally sure if it fit right: Obviously everyone has a different size mouth, but everyone is getting the same mold here. I'm a bit on the smaller side and didn't feel like the mold was totally pressed against my teeth the whole time. And since you put the whitening gel on the mold, if the mold isn't touching your teeth, your teeth won't get the gel on them. After a couple days, I started applying a little bit of the gel straight to my teeth before putting in the mold, just in case.Overall, if your teeth are already pretty white and you're just looking for a notch whiter or to get rid of some problem spots, I'm not sure this product is for you. But if your teeth are badly stained and yellow, this might be more lightly to give you the boost you're looking for.
